Suspension products testingPACKAGE
DETAILS
P-REX
I In conjunction with Hot 4's magazine we hired the North Circuit at Oran Park in November 2000 to conduct some testing of various popular suspension modifications and products. The object was to try to determine what difference various components would make to the cars handling measured with comparative lap times. The absolute times were irrelevant as they would vary between car, driver and the conditions. Two cars used. One was a standard MY00 WRX sedan the other was the P-Rex project car. The standard WRX had a tweaked exhaust but all the suspension was standard including wheel alignment, which was set to factory settings at the start. Tyres were Falken GrB's 205/50/16 with moderate tread. The car had about 40,000kms on the odometer. The plan called for a series of changes to be made to the car and timed on the same track using the same driver, in this case Brendan Helsham, the owner/driver of P-rex and a consistent WRX pilot. The cars were also driven by Ben Ellis, Editor in Chief of Hot 4's, with his comments noted after each change.
