NSW WRX Club - Open Class July 2001

Introducing the latest addition to our family, P-Rex XRD. Steve Burke is the owner driver of the MY96 imported Sti that currently hold most of the NSW WRX Club lap records. Steve is well known to many as one of the quickest guys in the Australian GTP (production series) class alongside co-driver Wayne Boatwright.

Though still road registered and minus a roll cage, this car is still arguably the fastest registered track WRX in Australia and one of the fastest outright sedans. Steve likes to go hard, we thought the car could achieve more with some Whiteline treatment so we decided to work together to beat his own records and set some new ones. 

Indy Rally - Surfers Paradise 
P-Rex XRD competed in the recent 2001 Indy Rally, a mixture of street and track events designed for road/race cars. Being a premier event leading to the Surfers Paradise Indy Car race the field was filled with exotics like Porsche GT3's and Skyline GT-R's. In spite of this opposition with up to 850hp available, P-Rex XRD still finished 9th outright with only 320hp. The overall results were:
  • 9th outright overall
  • 4th in class, beaten by 3 GTR Skylines with double the power.
  • Fastest WRX and first one home.
  • 1st outright in Ringwood Hill climb.
  • Top 7 in all circuit and hill climb events.

Earlier on in the year, our first outing with the Whiteline package saw Steve smash his old lap record at Oran Park GP circuit by a full second, going from 1:17.99 to 1:16.95.

We hope to go a little better with stage 2 of our development package in the near future so stay tuned for more results. In the meantime, here are some details on the car.

MY96 imported Sti V2 with 2.2litre closed deck block, standard turbo and front mount intercooler running 1 bar boost. Front and rear diffs are plated LSD type, gearbox is Precision Auto Robotics race straight cut type. Tyres used are Michelin S9A slicks 240/17.

Previously fitted with a variety of swaybars, coil-overs and other products.

  • Height and rate adjustable and tweaked to deal with higher base spring rate with 500lb front and 400lb rear spring rates
  • Custom front strut top camber adjusters set to max caster

  • X3001 XRD front adjustable swaybar - 25-28mm
  • KCA319M XRD version anti-lift kit.
  • Whiteline lower control arm bushes
  • KSB520 rear upper strut brace
  • X3002 XRD rear adjustable swaybar - 24-29mm
  • KBR20-24 rear heavy duty swaybar mounts
  • KLC19 rear heavy duty swaybar links
  • KCA414 rear camber kit
  • KSB750 rear subframe lock kit
  • KSB751 front of rear diff support lock kit
  • Whiteline control arm bushes
  • Front alignment = camber -3:25, toe -2mm, caster +4.2
  • Rear alignment = camber -2:5, toe -2.5
