Whiteline @ World Time Attack Challenge

A huge 2 days of intense time attack action took place at Sydney's Eastern Creek raceway over May 21st & 22nd. A massive list of entries, including those from USA & Japan provided spectators with some of the best non V8 supercar motorsport entertainment this year.

Those who came along were treated to drift demonstrations and a 'red bull' style aerial acrobatics show, not to mention the vast array of heavily modified and super quick time attack cars. The Whiteline team was only on hand to show off the latest products, answer technical queries and help a number of vehicles competing with Whiteline products.

Whiteline adj sway bars now available for Skyline R35 GTR

The Nissan Skyline R35 GTR Whiteline front sway bar #BNF40Z features a solid 33mm 2 point adjustable set up, whilst there are 2 offerings for the rear sway bar to counter the understeer characteristics, due to the understated 14mm original bar. One is pumped up to a solid 18mm #BNR36Z in diameter, whilst the larger bar boasts 20mm #BNR36XZ in diameter. Both offer 3 points of adjustment allowing their stiffness to be altered by increasing or reducing the length of the lever arms.

Whiteline awards Redline Time Attack competitor

Congratulations goes out to Leonard Novak, who placed 2nd at the recent Redline Time Attack Event at Las Vega Motor Speedway on April 25th 2010. Competing in the ‘Enthusiast RWD’ category in a Z33 350Z, Leonard posted a fastest lap of 1min 58.24secs, which was 1 second of the winner and almost 2 seconds in front of 3rd place. Leonard is running Whiteline Plus polyurethane bushings (rear subframe and front control arm bushings) and as part of the contingency sponsorship program has won himself a $200 product voucher to buy more Whiteline products and go even harder at the next event.

Whiteline Jim – Fast Fact - Grip

Grip
Often confused with handling, grip is the ability of the car’s tyres to hold onto the road under the stresses of cornering, braking and acceleration.  Grip is also referred to as ‘roadholding’.  Suspension and tyres are partners in the creation of a car’s grip. 

The tyres do the gripping, but only when the suspension keeps them pressed into the tarmac. If the suspension allows the tyre to leave the road or even ‘unload’, grip is reduced. And this is the greatest failing of most existing suspension mods as it ignores the fact that the name of the game is maximising contact between road and tyre.

WORKS Ralliart finishes Oregon Trail Rally

WORKS Rally participated in their second event in the 2010 Rally America season, The Oregon Trail Rally. This is a particularly challenging race and the attrition showed just that. The event started on Friday night at Portland International Raceway. Covering some of the famous race track and much of the surrounding service roads, that makes some of the best spectator stages on the Rally America schedule. 63 cars participated Friday night, and by the end of Saturday's stages only 24 competitors were out of the race.

In the end the WORKS Ralliart finished the race moving up three more positions resulting in a 6th in class and 13th over all.

Driver Lars Wolfe stated that "the Mitsubishi RalliArt SST has been an exciting car to start rallying and we are looking forward to making it to the rest of the Rally America events".

Whiteline to commence P-30 Project RS

Whiteline is pleased to advise the receipt of their brand new FORD FOCUS RS, which will become the latest project car in a long and successful history of Whiteline project builds. The FOCUS RS has been the pin up car of 2009 and is proving ever so popular with Whiteline waiting over 12 months to take the keys after demand and vehicle orders surged last year.

Graeme Jeram, Whiteline technical engineer at Whiteline’s UK headquarters, is very excited about the RS and more importantly working with the new Revo-knuckle front suspension system that separates this front wheel drive from its predecessors. Graeme’s initial thoughts are "the car will certainly benefit from front & rear bars and a compliment of bushes will transform the chassis".

Like with any project vehicle, Whiteline intends to do some preliminary testing to get an impression of its prowess on the track, whilst recording data information for analysis to pin point weaknesses that Whiteline can improve on.

Whiteline sponsors 2010 Redline Time Attack series

Whiteline is pleased to announce their contingency sponsor program support for the 2010 Redline Time Attack series.

A time attack is another term for time trial. The term is commonly used in Japan for individual time trial events for motor vehicles that involves a vehicle running around the circuit in lieu of a qualifying lap and the term is widely adopted outside the country for tuner event and media. Redline Time Attack is the premier North American series which attracts some seriously tuned cars by privateers and tuning workshops around the country. What’s even better is the various categories of which one can compete which accommodates all levels of tuned vehicles and drivers.

Whiteline’s inclusion in the contingency program supports those cars competing and winning on Whiteline products.

Whiteline supports Dutch Time Attack event

Whiteline is pleased to announce our support of the Dutch Time Attack Event to be held Saturday March 14th, 2010 at Zandvoort Circuit, the Netherlands.

Toyo Tires Time Attack is the most spectacular time of the day at our car events. Participants need to take everything out of their car to drive the fastest lap time. Time Attack is a real circuit sport, it’s a great experience for the participant and the spectator.

What makes Time Attack so special is that it is so accessible to anyone. In the Semi Pro class for instance, drivers do not require years of experience or a track-spec car. It is truly a class for the novice motoring enthusiast that wishes to gain some experience in driving competitively on a racetrack. The other two classes (Pro Street and Extreme) really make a crowd pleaser. More experienced drivers and even pro racing drivers will bash the track with highly modified cars, looking for the ultimate laptime.

How does it work?
During Toyo Tires Time Attack it’s about the fastest lap within a short period of time. All the participants within a class of 20-25 cars will go on the track and try to drive themselves in the best position within the field. The biggest question during the race is if you’re the fastest driver. On board we use transponders, which allows us to measure your time precisely. All contestants get the chance to drive some practice laps.

WHITELINE WINNING AWARDS AT SEMA

Whiteline has done it again, with a 2009 'GLOBAL MEDIA AWARD' at the recent SEMA show held in Las Vegas, USA. This is 3rd GLOBAL MEDIA AWARD in 2 years for Whiteline, and caps off another highly successful show. The award was for Whiteline's front and rear adjustable sway bar set for the highly desirable NISSAN SKYLINE R35 GTR.

The voting panel reviewed over 2,000 new style and performance products that were introduced at this year's show. From these, the journalists selected 10 products each that would be of most interest to their publications readers and most likely to succeed commercially in their respective countries. Publications from 25 countries were represented on the judge's panel this year.

Andy Nolan, marketing manager for Whiteline, received the award and was ecstatic to be up alongside other new product award winners of known aftermarket corporations from around the globe.

Adjustable sway bars for the Dodge Challenger/ Charger The front sway bar features a solid 32mm adjustable set up designed to balance out inherent oversteer tendencies, whilst the rear sway bar (BCR15Z) boasts 18mm in diameter. Both offer 2 points of adjustment allowing their stiffness to be altered by increasing or reducing the length of the lever arms.

A sway bars objective is to reduce sway, or body roll, and stabilise a vehicle under lateral (cornering) forces. Having adjustability permits the roll stiffness to be tuned for different situations without replacing the entire bar. The stiffer the bar, the more force required to move the left and right wheels relative to each other. This increases the amount of force required to make the body roll.

Cornering loads are spread more evenly across the tyres delivering more grip and frankly, that’s what it’s all about. You also get improved tyre wear as your tyres stay flatter and more upright. Comfort improves because your car sits flatter through bends meaning less movement inside the vehicle.

Whiteline Swaybars are part of the Whiteline handling system. Designed to match and integrate with Chassis Bracing and key alignment products to deliver a fully balanced handling solution. More compliant suspension will be induced during braking and accelerating. This will benefit traction, as the wheel will be able to track the tarmac more precisely. In terms of balance, the front end will have a proportionally lower roll resistence during traction or braking. Whiteline talk of the show at Autosalon Singapore

Whiteline recently made a very strong impact at the recent Asia Autosalon held at the Singapore Exhibition hall in early October. Over 4 days the inaugural show exhibited well known tuning houses from Singapore and boasted aftermarket performance brands from Japan, Thailand, Singapore and Australia. Drift exhibitions and eye catching race queens also got the cameras flashing and the hearts racing.

Having dabbled in the Asian market for some time, the show represented Whiteline’s official launch into the South East Asian market with it recently appointed distributor and the reception was fantastic. Andy Nolan, marketing manager for Whiteline, commented that the recognition of Whiteline was quite amazing. “We have really only started in this market but the awareness and more importantly useage of the product is impressive. There is considerable market potential here and now that we have a local source for the product, the business is sure to grow.

Whiteline will follow up the recent show with product and tuning training to further support the local Whiteline dealers.

GRUDGE MATCH III – 2009 Subaru WRX vs 2008 Mitsubishi Ralliart

The latest installment of the world famous Grudge Match, sees a 2009 Subaru WRX take on its new equivalent, the 2008 Mitsubishi Ralliart Lancer. Off the factory floor, both platforms have had their critics, calling them uninspiring, but these cars are different and this shoot out sees both cars modified with Whiteline handling and MRT power packages. That’s right, these cars are definitely not standard, however the modifications that have been performed on these cars suit the budget of most enthusiasts, so they are very affordable, but most of all deliver bang for your buck performance.

ROCK - ROLL CENTRE KIT - Mustang 05-08 V8 coupe (BL-177)

WHITELINE diagnosed a mediocre MacPherson front suspension with poor roll centre control and excessive bump steer:

With the Mustang at standard ride height, front roll centre height is 55mm above ground. At even a mild lowering of 20mm front roll centre migrates below ground level.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? Basically it means you need a WHITELINE ROCK.

 Front roll geometry actually encourages roll the lower you go. A WHITELINE ROCK is designed to raise the front roll centre geometry by using specially engineered ball-joints and tie rod ends while still maintaining original steering geometry. Tests on the MUSTANG showed that raising the front roll centre resulted in a substantial increase to front roll resistance and a significant reduction in suspension compression of the outside front wheel during cornering (less roll).

Due to the heavily voided rear suspension sub frame mounts, large cross member misalignment and movement can be noticed and observed during hard constant cornering, giving a sensation of the rear end squirming around. Having the large voiding in the rear bushes also allows the rear cradle to change the suspension alignment dynamically allowing toe angle changes to the rear suspension during cornering. By fitting inserts into the voiding, dramatically reduces the effect of this and allows a more positive feel from the ear end during cornering.

VW Golf MkV

The MkV Golf is a great re-design and improvement from the earlier model, particularly due to the all new rear multi link suspension, although with the wider customer demographic vehicle handling dynamics and component quality has been compromised. This is good news for an enthusiast as there is a lot of potential for improvements on top of good underpinnings.

The front roll geometry actually encourages roll the lower you go. Tests on P28 showed that raising the front rollcentre resulted in a substantial increase to front roll resistance and a significant reduction in suspension compression of the outside front wheel during cornering (less roll).

This improves weight distribution, maintains a better camber angle and ultimately improves front grip. The overall outcome is significantly reduced understeer through reduced front wheel compression, as well as improved steering feel, steering precision and vehicle stability.

WALK - WHITELINE ANTI LIFT KIT

From the creators of the original anti lift and caster kit comes the latest addition to th program with the release of the WALK for 2008 onwards Impreza WRX and Sti. The WHITELINE anti lift and caster kits are infamous among WRX and STi owners the world over. With a WALK fitted to your Subaru:

• More compliant suspension will be induced during braking and accelerating.
• This will benefit traction, as the wheel will be able to track the tarmac more precisely.
• In terms of balance, the front end will have a proportionally lower roll resistance during traction or braking,

"Mechanical suspension - tuning is no longer enough"

Modern vehicles are equipped with a stability control system. These systems are called different names, like ESP, ESC, VDC and so on, but they all operate under similar principles. They're typically part of the ABS system and are closely linked. These systems look for any perceived deviation from a cars' "ideal" path like oversteer or understeer and then use selective braking of individual wheels to take control. Great idea and a good safety feature but too intrusive for racing or track work.
